We’re a family-owned business based in Lake Bathurst, NSW, about 1.5 hours from Canberra. Our journey began when our youngest son, Finn, was diagnosed with eczema. His skin was covered in red, sore, and open wounds, along with dry patches all over his body. We took him to the doctor, where we were given the standard diagnosis: eczema. The solution? A steroid cream, with the advice to use it no more than twice a day and for no longer than two weeks at a time.

When I asked the doctor why Finn, a healthy farm kid, was developing this condition, I was met with silence, and the only answer was to continue using the steroid cream. At the time, our eldest son, Toby, showed no signs of eczema, and neither Pete nor I had any skin issues. This left me wondering, “Why is this happening?”

I decided to dive deeper into understanding the cause and searching for a better solution. After nearly a year of using Beef Tallow on Finn’s skin, we saw incredible results. It healed his eczema, became our go-to daily moisturizer, and sparked a shift toward more natural products in our home. We started using natural ingredients for everything—from our dishwasher tablets and laundry detergent to cleaning products, deodorants, and perfumes.

Our journey to natural living extended to adopting grass-fed and finished meats, and we strive to eat whole, organic foods when possible.

Pete is a heavy diesel mechanic, and I come from a background in teaching high school PDHPE and Science. With our combined skills and passion for health, we created Sons of the Land Co. It all started in 2024 when Pete asked, “What if we could help other people?” From there, our small business was born.

Sons of the Land Co is not just a business to us; it’s a tribute to our sons and their Aboriginal heritage. We’re proud members of the Daby mob, originally from near Kandos/Rylstone, NSW. We live on a small farm while still working our day jobs. Our dream is to one day breed our own grass-fed cattle and produce our entire Sons of the Land Co Tallow-based skincare range from start to finish. For now, we source our tallow from Australian farmers who are committed to sustainable agriculture and raising grass-fed cattle.
